Today I read how much of the world is eating so terribly and becoming obese- the US, France, India, Mexico, etc. How the diabetes rate is 50% on some reservations. How up to 90% of black women in the US are overweight.

Then I see the commercial where beautiful Audrey Hepburn begins dancing and they time her moves to "Back in Black" (she probably would have had a hoot out of that). However, they aren't really advertising her dance- they are advertising the return of the"skinny black pant". They are putting out the gamine look as the goal. Now Audrey made the waif look work for her. Does anyone know WHY she looked like that? SHE WAS STARVED BY THE NAZIS! During her childhood in Nazi-occupied Netherlands. It prevented her from becoming a professional ballerina- her malnourishment caused her to be underdeveloped strengthwise- and that's why she turned to acting...now this is the "look" girls now are taught is the ideal....? Audrey Hepburn herself was SO AGAINST children being abused- she would have never endorsed young girls starving themselves- she was ambassador to Unicef and travelled to impoverished countries in East Africa and elsewhere to help children like she once was (Unicef helped her as a child). I know the aim of the advertisers is to think "if you wear these pants, you will look like a 5'7" size 0". Audrey lost 4 of 6 children to miscarriage- do you think her childhood undernourishment may have had something to do with that? The image of infertility- I wonder if Kiera Knightly, Kate Bosworth, or Nicole Richie even have periods anymore. I doubt it.
